On February 20, 2025, Rekha Gupta became the 9th Chief Minister of Delhi. She is the fourth woman to hold this important job. Rekha Gupta is a member of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). She is also a Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) for Shalimar Bagh.
Early Life and Education
Rekha Gupta was born on July 19, 1974, in Julana, Haryana. When she was two, her family moved to Delhi. Her father worked at the State Bank of India. Rekha went to Daulat Ram College, Delhi University. She also studied law at IMIRC College of Law, earning her degree in 2022.
Political Beginnings
Rekha Gupta started her political journey with the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) in 1992. The ABVP is a student organization. In 1996, she became the President of the Delhi University Students' Union (DUSU. She held this position until 1997. As DUSU President, she worked for student rights. She also supported student welfare.

From Student Politics to Municipal Governance
In 2007, Rekha Gupta was elected as a councillor. She represented Uttari Pitampura (Ward 54). She was elected again in 2012. As a councillor, she improved local facilities. She built libraries and parks. She also worked on swimming pools.

In the 2025 Delhi elections, Rekha Gupta won the Shalimar Bagh seat. She defeated Bandana Kumari from the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP). She won by a big margin of 29,595 votes. The BJP won the election, securing 48 out of 70 seats. AAP only won 22 seats.
On February 19, 2025, the BJP chose Rekha Gupta as the Chief Minister of Delhi. The next day, she took office. She is the first BJP Chief Minister of Delhi in 27 years.

In the 2025 Delhi Assembly elections, Rekha Gupta won with 68,200 votes. This was 59.95% of the votes. Bandana Kumari from AAP received 38,605 votes, which was 33.93%. Praveen Jain from the Indian National Congress (INC) got 4,892 votes, or 4.30%.
In the 2020 Delhi Assembly elections, Bandana Kumari from AAP won with 57,707 votes (49.41%). Rekha Gupta from BJP received 54,267 votes (46.46%).
In the 2015 Delhi Assembly elections, Bandana Kumari from AAP won with 62,656 votes (52.14%). Rekha Gupta from BJP received 51,678 votes (43.01%).
